Running a program that is installed on a server

by roundaboutrc . Updated 17 years, 4 months ago

I just started with a new company and have been tasked with manageing their network. I have 10 XP Pro sp2 machines that were all in a workgroup with a 2003Server on a domain. I have started to join the computers to the domain and creating accounts for the users and computers that didn’t have accounts already.

Here Is The Problem:
I have run into a situation with one computer where the user runs a program that is installed on the server. After joining the computer to the domain they can’t run the program any more.

The History:
Before I joined the computer to the domain, the user had a mapped drive to the share where the program is installed on the server with a shortcut on the desktop on the PC for the program. Now that I have joined the computer to the domain, with the mapped drive handled through a logon script(vbs)the user is unable to run the program by the shortcut, nor accessing the share while logged into the domain, also have logged in localally to the computerand tried the shortcut and going into the shre and running from the actual location on the server.

Special Note:
The user and all other users can log into any other computer on the domain and run the program just fine.

What I Have Done:
I have verfied all of the permissions on the share on the server which has “everyone” read/execute permissions.I think that there is something in a local policy on the users PC but I have looked through the local securtiy policy and nothing really jumped out.

The conculstion:
I am confused at the present, so any and all help would be great
I am at a confused stated
