Hi Gurus,
Here is my situation:
1. We are using networksolutions POP mail with 30 mail boxes as of now.
2. However, we’ll be migrating to in-house exchange2003 soon.
3. At the same time, we would like to change mailbox naming convention to john@ourdomain.com to johndoe@ourdomain.com
4. Management wants keep old mailboxes and any mail sent to them gets automatically forwarded to new mailboxes. I guess by using mailbox alias.
Here is my problem:
We have about 30 email users and by having old mail boxes, we would need 60 mail boxes. This is not an issue if we were to keep using POP mail server since it comes with 500 mail boxes. However, this becomes problematic if we were to switch over to the Exchange server since we would need to create about 60 users (CAL cost money!) Further more, half of them is actualy dummy accounts.
My question is if I keep my old mail server as a secondary in MX record and have alias boxes only on the old mail server, would mail sent to john@ourdomain.com:
1. Go my Exchange server according to MX priority
2. Fail over to POP server since no such mail box exist
3. Forwards email to johndoe@ourdomain.com on Exchange server based on alias setting on POP server.
Thanks a bunch
Charles
