Defrag a SAN backup raid drive
Hello ALL, I am having a issue with a HP SAN backup system right now I have 16 drives in the san with about 1tb of space, split into two logical drives for access for two seperate servers one of the partiton is badly fragmeted should I be running defrag on these drives?? Also one of the drives is running a SQL database with about 300gb of data, should I run defrag also should I have a anti-virus scanning these drive ? Let me know if you need more iformation as you can see I am a bit new with these san backup servers

yes you should be defragging these drives. there are several utilities available that will defrag on the fly during idle time. as to the AV question, what is the source of the data, if the source has real time protection that notifies you in the event of an infection then you can reasonably forego real time AV scanning on your SAN volumes. however, each time you get an AV event you will need to evaluate its impact on your SAN. you should give more points for this answer. please rate my answer
