sattelight is a wireless modem, and unfortunately doesn't yet have high speed, unless you are hard wired into mainframe system that is controlling the satellite com link.

Dowload fast, upload slow

there are going to be latency issues, especially if you plan on using VPN. Unless you have a satellite that does both transmitting and receving, which I believe is expensive, you will have slow upload speeds since the data will have to be transmitted through traditional phone lines.

If you have more than 100-150 site to communicate over satellite its become cheaper solution then P2P telecom ..this is what we decide...

Sat Comms

by InXale In reply to Satellite Usage Advantage

Whilst working for a cruise company we used Sat Comms to provide VoIP , 'live' e-Mail and realtime SQL replication. Based in the UK , the sat feed was in NJ. Circuit path was , North of England - London - NJ - Ship ( either Caribbean or Med. ) Ping times were between 600ms-1000ms. Dependant on whether conditions. VoIP quality was very good. No latency. Bandwidth was 2Mb down , 128k up. Cost was $10,000 per month. Expensive , so is crusing :). trust you can discuss different costs with your provider.

Hope this helps

Rgds
