SBS 2k3, a router, and a pre-existing server

by conrad_dunfee . Updated 18 years ago

I am setting up a SBS 2k3 box on a network in a restaurant. There is already a Server 2k3 box that is connected to clients for their terminals in the restaurant. I want to setup the SBS box to use the same router that the old box is using. When I try to setup a client I get the “list of users or computers ..blah…blah…hardwired..blah..blah..blah.. router..blah” error.

From scouring the web it appears that my issue is with the DNS settings. I believe “Open Table” is the name of the system the restaurant uses for it’s pos. I’m not familiar with how the “Open Table” system works. I am hesitant to start changing DNS settings in the router for fear of creating problems with the pos system. Has anyone encountered a similar issue before?
