Scandisk reports bad sectors but crashes

by chocolate85 . Updated 23 years, 7 months ago

Every time I start up my computer a blue box comes up saying “One or more of your disk drives may have bad sectors.” So I press a key to run Scandisk but after it goes through the 1st test, then it stops and it says “General Protection Fault in SCANDISK.ALT Press any key to continue loading Windows.” So I do and I have noticed that my computer’s speed seems to continually decrease. I have tried running programs such as Cacheman and RamBooster but after it recovers some memory, the RAM always runs down to zero. I am constantly running out of RAM and my programs always crash. Or my screen will go black and I will be unable to see what I’m typing in my programs and it looks like the taskbar is disintegrating. Sometimes the computer does not even finish loading windows before it crashes. Recently I had to download Netscape because Internet Explorer always crashed in explorer.exe and then all of my programs would crash. What is wrong with my computer?
