      Hi

Sounds like your HDD is on its way out or infact already OUT!!! If I were you, I would get off whatever info you can, try reinstalling Windows (formatting the drive first). If it goes on OK without problems – great – othewise its a new Hard Disk drive I’m afraid. Hope this helps.

So right you are. Could not live without computer and the hard drive had over 300 bad sectors. Currently have someone trying to recover information. It had been a very good machine…..It will have a nive funeral.

        Thank you for your help.

Best guess, is that you either have a virus infection, or your hard drive is in the process of failing.

      Boot into safe mode.
Then run scandisk and make sure it is set to fix errors.

      Backup what files you can.

Replace the hard drive and start over.

Chances are that you can believe the computer. If Windows or DOS Scandisk says that the hard drive is bad, then it’s about a 99% chance that it is.

Start the computer in DOS mode, by pressing F as it starts up, then type “scandisk” at the prompt. This puts you in DOS Scandisk which is a more basic but thorough test of te hard drive.

If you want, you can put that hard drive in another computer and run Scandisk in it. Then you will know for sure.

      Hi

Get a new HDD and utilize the mfg’s boot disk to clone your old HDD.

      That will save your data.

Mfg’s boot disk is best to format and clone your old HDD

You must install your new HDD as slave and set your old one to Master. That is done by the jumpers on the drives themselves.
