Scanner install created HP printer Probl

By dbaker ·
On installing a Paperport One Touch scanner, my HP 697C printer stopped functioning properly. It started 'picking up' a sheet of paper and holding it in the carriage path. During this time the power light blinks and the resume lights blinks. I have talked with both companies, downloaded all of their drivers, changed port type settings three times in BIOS and still will not work.
I removed all incidents of Papreport, reset BIOS to Spp on port and it works as it did orginally. Any ideas?

The first two things I'd look at:

1) One of the cables is not bi-directional.

2) The PaperPort Scanner is defective.

I had the #2 situation show up with a flatbed scanner after some months of use. One day it decided not to pass through anylonger, and ... The cheap solution was an A/B switch I already had (at the expense of scan-through-print).

Visioneer has a very helpful tech support on their website; (http://www.visioneer.com/dynahome.html)

Because every system is configured differently there is usually not an easy way to determine what is causing the difficulty other than trying different things. The things that most commonly cause problems are:
- Was the software installed correctly, with no other application running during the install?
- Has the most recent driver been downloaded from Visioneer's web site?
- Was the PaperPort application installed to the same drive as the operating system?
- Is the scanner receiving power from a known working outlet?
- Is the communication cable and power supply that came with the scanner being used?
- Is the correct Twain source selected from the "Select Source" option, u

You should make sure that you are using IEEE compliant cables that support Bidirectional traffic.
