Scanner quits after 98 to 98SE upgrade

Scanner has ceased to be recognized by system after Win98 to Win98SE upgrade. The scanner connects via the parallel port and stand-alone printer connects to scanner. Printer works fine. I’ve removed scanner and reinstalled to no avail. I’ve updated driver from the ‘Net. (Scanner still works fine on old Win95 system and worked well with Win98.) Now with Win98SE it’s no go.

thats odd,

try getting the the newest drivers off the web… i would totally remove the parrel port, disconnect printer and scanner… reboot..

then reconnect everything., do add new hardwar wizard in control panel.. see if windows detects it… if it doesnt then manually add the scanner 1st then printer…. also make sure the terminator you sue to interconnect the printer and scanner is good…… load the latest drivers.. that should do it

The new driver killed it after I got the scanner working. I reinstalled everything again without the new driver and all seems to be OK. Thanks.

Before installing updated scanner drivers search for all occurances of TWAIN and TWUNK. Delete them then update the drivers. If you also have other twain type devices like a camera you should reinstall the drivers for it also. Drivers for scanners will not overwrite the old drivers fearing that they are needed for another device. If you have more than one twain device load the oldest first.

The new driver doesn’t work. Removing everything and starting fresh got the scanner and computer talking again. All seems to be OK for now. Thanks.

all of these answers are good. so all i can do is add to the info. first i need more info…type of comp., scanner, scanner software, and if you have your scanner turned on before you boot. this does make a diff. on answers. make sure the printer port is set for bi-directional, remove your printer and scanner software and disconnect your printer till finished. remove all ref. of twain from comp. use the find option in the start menu to do this. then reinstall all the software just like youwould if you just pulled it out of the box. if this doesn’t work i need the info i requested to further persue the question
