script to put icons on desktop

By dezasta ·
hi im currently in the process of creating a automated install of windows xp and am wanting a script to put the icons for my computer and my documents on the desktop. i dont want them to be the shortcuts but the actual icons themselves. i know how to do it manually (display properties>desktop>customise>then select which icons you want) but i would like to do this via a .bat script. help please?

unfortunately no,

what i am trying to acheive does not require copying of files just simply putting the icon on the desktop. i have inadvertantly also found a fix for my problem. rather than use a script its just a matter of a simple registry tweak to turn on the icons for my computer and my documents.

appreciate your help none the less

(edited) If you know the registry settings

then you can either call them in a script with the reg add command, or write them into an .inf file which can be installed by command or right-clicking and choosing install.

Or, you can export the registry keys, combine them into one .reg file, and right-click that and select Merge.

Tweaks for desktop items and other stuff here
among other places.

You can also get apps that have loads of these tweaks all in one interface, like Tweak Now Win Secret, FreshUI, and others.
