SCSI Problem

By kalvyn21 ·
Hi, my name is kalvyn. I have a Adaptec 2940U2W Card, and with a 68-Pin Ultra2 SCSI Cable and a 68-Pin to 80-Pin Adapter and a Cheetah ST39102LC 9.1GB Hard Drive 10K RPM (80-Pin)... The problem is that the drive couldn't be Detect in the 68Pin Ultra2 Connector so I tried the 68Pin Wide Ultra Connector and it finally Worked :) But I don't know why ???
But now, everytime I try to install an operating system (win2k or XP) it always crashes on me at the begining of Seting Up Windows screen...

Any help would be Greatly Appreciated...

Sincerely
Kalvin

SCSI Problem

It sounds like a perplexing problem. My only thoughts on the matter are this:most adapters of this fashion, whether they are AT to PS/2 keyboard adapters, 9-pin VGA to 15-pin VGA adapters, are evil, and are prone to fail. My recommendation is to contact Adaptec, as the card has a five year warranty, and ask their tech support if there is a problem doing this. If they don't know or they say no, then I would recommend going to wherever you got the adapter and getting a replacement. Hope this helps!!!

Make sure if this is the last or only drive on the chain that you have termination somehow enabled. There are sometimes other factory options or Parity settings that tinkering with can help... Usually these should be left alone, so I would go withanswer #1 and call Adaptec.
