Get lots of other sites to link to yours, and your ranking will improve. For instance, join a lot of groups, whether for pay or just for status. Get your site linked from their sites that way.

Put a link to your site in a signature that appends to all your postings on groups - of course you want to make sure they're all appropriate sites and postings.

You can also use the META tags that contain catch phrases or summary words for what your site is about or related to.

Make sure your site has an appropriately configured robots.txt file.

Put your site's link in all press releases or get the interviewer to agree to put the link in any articles being written about you...
