Second HD problem

By topcat8 ·
I just had to reformat and install WinXP, now my second hardrive can't open. I keep getting a message asking me if I want to format the drive? I had saved all my data on this drive before I had to reinstall Winxp and it was working fine, now I can'tsee anything. Also I installed my new video card and at 1024 I can't get the window to fill up the screen. Again this worked before I had to reinstall Winxp. Also if I can get to my extra drive I saved all my e-mail and addresses and want to copy them back to my C drive, what is the best and easiest way. Because before I had my problem, I could not find the WAB files that held my e-mail addresses, how can I locate them, I tried all possible search methods. Please HELP!
Thanks,
Dave

First I would check to see if the drive is being detected in your BIOS or POST. Are both the drives the same? Try placing the drive on seperate controllers or one by it's self and the other with your CD-ROM.

For the screen problem it sounds like the width and height needs adjusted through the monitor or the correct or updated drivers are not properly installed.

For the email, did you create a folder for your files? The easiest way to back up all your data if you are using outlook is to achive them. That will put everything in one file called archive.pst. Try this in your search..*.pst or *.wab, or just outlook.

Look for the largest file in these searches, that is normally the one that you want.

Hope this is helpful for you.

Thanks, but I can't get to my 2nd hd. I run two identical hd's, they are Western Digital, 7200 rpm, ata 100 and they worked perfect before I had to reinstall Winxp pro. Also I can't find my e-mail messages, what extension do they use? My second hd has all my data and now I can't see it, I keep getting asked if I want to format the drive every time I try to open it. Can some one help?
Thanks,
Dave

Depending on WHO made your drive, you might have to go to their website and see if there are any
special patches needed to work as a 2nd drive.Replace your Video card with old one, then try rebooting system. As to your missing mail, perhaps using the_date_ part of the Find program might come in handy? , as well as "*.W**"

You dont mention if you have 2 HDDs or a single partitioned drive, so......

Obviously you don't want to format the disk as you will lose any data on the partiton. However, the fact that Windows detects the second drive and asks this question suggests to me that either the partion is not formatted or is fomatted with a non FAT/NTFS file system(unlikely)

Check to make sure that the data is actually on the disk using a windows 9x boot disk for FAT32 or some other utility for NTFS.When you dothis, be prepared for the possibility that you may have inadvertently formatted the partiton with your data on it.
