secure workgroup

By suvasa ·
I have made a workgroup of 4 pc's running win xp. I want this 4 pc's to be accessible only to the 4 person's using it. but so far its accessible to everyone using other workgroups in the network. can anyone help me? And is it possible to use xp as a server like windows server 2003 and use one computer as a domain server?

Depending where these 4 Computers are located you could isolate them behind a Router so you create a Sub LAN that can access everything required but not have other computers access these units.

It really depends here on what hardware you actually have and where the individual Computers are located. If they are all on the same branch of the LAN you could also using a Computer with 2 NIC run the other three off the one with 2 NIC's and isolate them that way as well. It really depends on the layout of the LAN though.

Workgroups by their very nature are inherently insecure.
