Securing Apache server in Local computer

By davoud ·

Looking into installing Apache server package including PHP,... in my computer which is running Windows xp home sp2 for studying purposes (like using and processing Forms...).

My first question is which Apache package is the best?
and the seconde question is that, What do I need to do to prevent any intrusions and attacks other than using a firewall?

on how complex the scripts you will be testing.
if they will be tested with heavy access on your webserver, then use latest apache 2
if they will only be tested for functionality, and production testing will be on a different machine, then use apache 1.3.x

use latest php, and mysql or postgresql

to secure, apache, by default is set to be secure.

the best change you can make is to set the listen drective to:
then apache will not be accessable from the internet, but will work on local machine for testing of scripts.
