    serial mouse not loading

    Locked

    by seadogs ·

I am running NT server 4.0 sp5 on a P166 with a serial mouse. We haven’t had any problems with it until yesterday. We had to restart the machine, and ever since it has not been loading the mouse. I went into event viewer and see the following notices: 1. from service control manager: The following boot start or system start drivers failed to load: Mouclass, sermouse. 2. from Mouclass: Could not locate the device object for one or more pointer port devices. I tried different mice, different drivers (it was just serial mouse, and I tried microsoft serial mouse). And have rebooted several times with no difference. I don’t know of any changes we made that might affect it. This machine runs our tape backup but is otherwise not usedvery much. Thank you for your help.

      From the desktop,,

CTRL&ESC will open the start menu..

R will put you in the Run box, press enter..

      Type “WinMSD” then enter..

Make sure that the serial ports are installed and using the right resources..

      Com1 Int4 3f8
      Com2 Int3 2f8(Dont use a serial mouse on COM3 or higher)

If they are there, go into your Ports control panel applet and remove them both. If you only have one port you have half the work. Reboot and let NT find the ports again.

      That’s my 2 cents…..Jeremy
