    Server 2003 File Ownership Oops

    Locked

    Hi all-
I replaced an inexperienced admin who took ownership of hundreds of user directories as administrator. This has understandably whacked the disk quota system. Does anyone have any idea of a way to restore ownership to each user without using the GUI and replacing every owner one at a time?

If you have this issue on a folder structure that contains users home folders that have a name descriptive of the userid it can be scripted. If this happened on folder shared by many, the hard part would be to determine who actually owns any given file.

To set the owner, look up a utility called setacl.exe. Create a script to enumerate all home folders, read the name, and set owner to that name with setacl.
