Set SATA drive as removable in Windows 2003

By Will Fastie ·
A Windows 2003 server I support has an after-market SATA controller connecting a removable drive bay. 400GB drives are used for backup.

How do I make the server see these drives as removable so I can swap them without restarting the server?

I hope you got your answer by now. I thought it was sad that there was no responses.

First you need the proper drivers for your after market device. Assuming that the device is properly installed you would want to go through the computer management MMC. Under disk management you can see all the media hardware. Assign drive letters. Go properties and mark "for quick removal". You may even be able to eject/safely remove from here.
