Setting up 2 internet lines for F/T

By edbuera ·
I need to setup 2 different internet lines for fault tolerance. Here are some info;

Dedicated T1 - Natting done on Firewall Side with a permanent VPN tunnel to other branches;

Cable Internet for Business - Natting done on router(has built-in firewall) side;

Is it possible for me to setup these 2 lines to be fault tolerant? I mean if the T1 line goes down, client pc's automatically used the cable internet as the failover and vice versa? If possible, do i need a special device?

you can with a Cisco Access Router that has a WIC-T1 module and a WIC-ADSL module. Its pricey though and if your not familiar with Cisco IOS steep learning curve.

Symantec has an Access Device and Microsoft's ISA server 2004 can also do it.

the Symantec 5400 Series Gateway http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/products/products.cfm?productid=133

and ISA Server 2004 http://www.microsoft.com/isaserver/default.mspx

here is an "how to" on ISA 2003 NLB http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/isa/2004/plan/network_load_balancing_ee.mspx

Both ISA server 2004 and the Symantec 5400 provide Array ["cluster"] capabilities for NLB and aggragate throughput.

What's the name of the device by Symantec? Am i going to have issues on the outgoing side since the Internet lines has different models of firewall?

Could you provide me with some links for tech info with the W2K ISA Server?

Take a look at Xincom. They have a box that will let you connect two (or more depending on unit) internet connections and configure for either fail over or load balance. www.xincom.com
