Share a Shared Printer - How to

By drwain ·
I have a W2K3 server with active directory. I also have a client computer with domain access.

On the client computer is a USB printer that is shared with applicable security rights.

On the server the shared printer is installed and available and works fine.

Problem is the main business application is located on a separate Linux server and requires the W2K3 server printers to be shared to be able to print to them.

How can I share the USB printer on the W2K3 server when it is installed as a shared printer from a client?

Wild guess

Instead of connecting the Linux server to the W03 server, could you connect it directly to the client system that's sharing the printer?

I assume sharing the printer directly from the server instead of the client system is not an option. My concern is having your main business application ties to a client system that may not always be on.

TCP/IP Services

Windows has a linux-compatible print share.

You need to install "Other Network File and Print Services" / "Print services for Unix"

It's in the Networking Services.

After you install that, you'll be able to share the printer with Linux/Unix systems.
