Shared Printer client stalling out when printed to

By jcaruana ·
I have two different small networks, each has a computer that is USB connected to a printer. When another computer on the network tries to print to the shared computer, the client computer stalls out for mintues at a time, only to never fully recover and have to be restarted. This happens everytime one of the other machines tries to print to the shared printer. I uninstalled all the drivers, and when I try to use the wizzard to add it back, when I navigate to the printer and click on Next, the client computer freezes again. So what is the issue??? augh!

I'd start with Drivers

Uninstall, clean and reinstall the drivers. By clean I mean remove every trace of them from the computer. I would also check permissions on the computer that is sharing the printer and the pcs connecting to it. Make sure that power management is turned off ofor the sharing computer and that the nic card is not allowed to power down.

The other thing to check here

Is that the Printer is actually Networkable. Many of the base line Printers are not able to be Networked and when you attempt to network then they cause the Host computer to hang.

If this has worked previously you'll need to tell us the Make & Model of the Printer and the OS in use. But first I would look on the Printers Makers Web Site and see if they have any new drivers for it.
