Sharing AOL with 4 PC's

By qb4006 ·
I am using and sharing AOL for internet access among 4 PC's. I use AnologX which is free proxy software to share the connection. It works OK but My issue is that the client PC's can't get on the internet unless AOL is active and logged on at the main PC. Is there any thing available to have the client PC's dial the connection when the main PC isn't on the internet. I want to avoid always having the main PC active on the internet just to get the others on. the person using the main PC may not want to be on the internet all the time and I can't get the client PC's to access the internet unless the main PC is already on the internet

My setup has 1 pc with AOL with the proxy installed and 3 pc's accessing the internet thru the 1st one.

Thanks

If you subscribed to an internet service provider, you could just run dial up networking on the host PC and wouldn't have to have AOL open using up your memory.

SMC has a Broadband Router. The Barricade
SMC7004BR, includes a 4 port Switch. This
unit has a db9 serial port. You can connect a
56k modem to this port. The SMC can dial and
maintain a connection through a 56k or isdn
modem. I used it with an ISDN modem till I got
DSL. the unit is a DHCP server and works very
well. You don't have the overhead of trying to
share connections.

Good Luck Lee
