Sharing files to the internet

By jostrowsky ·
Can anyone give me the secret to sharing files out to the internet? I have a small network that is behind a very small Belkin Router.

Thanks, Jeff

What type of sharing are you referring to?

If the peer to peer networks, you need to download and install the software for the particular peer to peer network you wish to use.

Search Google for KaZaa, Grokster or any of the other major peer topeer networks to find a download.

If you wish to have internet file storage, your choices are somewhat limited.

The best option I am aware of, is to work with your ISP, or one of the web based mail services and use the web space that they makeavailable to you as a file storage area.

Do you mean an FTP SERVER if so

01. Instal a firewall ( ex: Zone Alarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/ )

02. Instal a ftp Server ( ex: ServU: http://www.serv-u.com/ )

03. Make an account at http://www.dyndns.org/ to have a unique domain name like: myserver.homeft.net or whatever

04. Download a small program to update your IP with your domain name ( ex: DeeEs: http://palacio-cristal.com/products/DeeEnEs )

You can skip point 1 if you like your FIREWALL. You can skip 3, 4 if you have static IP.

AFTER YOU HAVE DONE ALL THAT you have to setup the serv-u with your users and with rights for some directoties, READ/WRITE/APPEND/DELETE/ETC
