Locked

Shifting Printer

By johnnow ·
Hi, I have an Oki 590 dot matrix printer which shifts one character to right after each form print. The tractor feed is locked down. When it prints you don't see the paper move. Any ideas why and how I can fix it.

Check your software for lines per inch when printing, Its been a while but I think 66 lines per page is max. This could be the cause of the character shift if you are over the limit for this printer.

I presume this printer worked correctly at one point in time. If you think the hardware is OK, you better skip to the last paragraph. Otherwise, try the following:

I have worked on enough Okidata printers to be familiar with the problem. It isone of two possible hardware problems:

1. Home position sensor may have crud in it, or may be bad (cheap fix).
-or-
2. Your driver board is toast (NOT CHEAP).

Usually, a can of air can give #1 a quick fix and get it back on the road. If yoususpect the driver board (a likely problem), you would probably be better off to trash the whole printer and buy a new one.

If you REALLY don't suspect a hardware problem, then you better check your reset code in the software. It may not be the correct one. Try using a Generic/Text Only driver of some type.

Hope this helps!
