Single click does a delayed double-click

By jeff.engel ·
When I single-click on a shortcut on the desktop or a file or folder in Explorer, the action performs a delayed double-click...highlights the name of the file or folder as if you were going to change the name of it. Have other computers with the same image and do not have the same issue. Only other piece to the puzzle that's different from the others is the presence of the .NET framework. Any help would be appreciated. Win2K, SP2

Have you checked your mouse properties in Control Panes to make sure the button settings have not been changed?

Hrm, just wondering, USB or PS2?

If the mouse is PS2 can you use a USB and get the same issue?

Just want to ensure there is not a hardware issue that's been overlooked...

Otherwise feel free to email me, I will we be looking to see if .NET could have anything to do with this. I'm curious to hear what your "gut instinct" says is the root of this problem.

Good question, however it also occurs when using the touchpad.

Swap the mouse.

Does the problem stay with the macihine or follow the mouse?

Check mouse properties in control panel.

Check add/remove programs in control panel. Any add on mouse software?

Does not follow the mouse, mouse properties are fine, mouse drivers removed and readded...also occurs with the touchpad. As a side note, issue appears to be random as new owner of laptop has not experienced...I'm leaning towards a motherboard issue. Sorry for not responding earlier than now.
