Slow erratic mouse

By waltknochjr ·
My Dad has an emachine that works fine for 30-45 minutes at a time. Then the mouse becomes erratic and very slow. He reboots and everything is fine for 30-45 miutes. Any Ideas what may be causing this?

well, sounds like the mouse is fine. you could confirm that by swapping mice with another computer...sounds like a resource conflict (probably the interrupt) or maybe software conflict. insufficent data: need
brand of mouse?
os version, sp?
1) try removing software that came with mouse (if any). mouse should still function. if that fixes it look for updates or t-shoot papers on manufac. website.
2) check device manager. any yellow bangs or question marks? mouse in there? configured correctly?
is this a laptop? try disabling touchpad (in BIOS)
is there an external modem? or internal modem on com1 or com2? try disabling them temporarily...
3) if win9x, run Start/Run/Msconfig. try disabling software that runs in the Startup. especiallyany emachines 'switchboard' type stuff...

Try running a program such as ADAWARE to see if any third party junk is running in the background. If you web surf and haven't scanned for third party plug-ins and web trackers, you will probably be amazed at how much junk is on your machine that you were unaware of.
recently a friend of mine (who always says he is aware of everything running on his PC)ran AdAware and it found 96 entries that either tracked web surfing or constantly checked the web for updates while he was using his computer.
Worth a shot!
