    Slow working of PC

    i have P3 450 mhz,and it is working very slowly.please help me out.Any steps for checking my computer,and to correct any type of faults. thanks

      Go to your BIOS settings when your comp starts to boot up. I am not sure how it really goes but you could try the x*xxxmhz.
      As i am no expert, i dun recommend you to mess with it either. And i doubt it has anything to do with the BIOS settings.
      I would suggest you Scan your computer for virus. Clear up your computer for space. There is a lot of DISKCLEAning software out there that is free. Maybe your computer is out of memory or something.

      1)What Os is running on your P3?
      2)Try ” to see” how many app r running in the same time? (on Win 95/98> Sistem Monitor” )
      3)Take a look also in the StartUp >run msconfig.exe!
      ..some app r a real mem eaters! 🙂
      4)run Abobe type manager to manage your font colection
      5)uninstal any memory managers u have instaled (memturbo..magnaram..memory manager..)
      6)u u running on low space? ..make some cleaning..on the temp dir & Temp..Internet Files
      7)use Norton Utilities to keep u away of problems
      8)give us some more deetailes :configuration & how u define “slow” working (the app r running on slow motion or..?

      1)run scan disk and see if their are any errors on hd
      2)run anti-virus to check for andy viruses
      3)Go Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools,and use the tools available to clean and optimize the Hard drive
      Close some of the applications at startup,and check the memory to make sure you have enough.

      The first question that comes to mind is how much RAM is in your machine? Paging apps out to virtual memory can really slow you down.

      What is slow? If file opening/saving is the time hog, defrag your hard drive.

      The second question is how many tasks are running? Everything that runs on your machine gets a share of the processor time and also takes up memory. Toys are neat, but do you really NEED thirteen or fourteen icons in your system tray?

      The suggestion about scanning for viruses should be a given … not just for system performance but also for data security reasons. Make sure you update your antivirus software before you scan, though. Scanning with outdated virus definitions is a waste of time.

      There are other things that can be done to improve system performance, but the 1K limit forces me to shut up.

      Well…all of the other answers are good, but they forgot one thing. The main reason a computer runs slow is lack of available memory. The main cause in Windows is too many programs in startup. Some programs load into startup without you ever knowing.
      The easiest way to fix it is to go to start-run-and type msconfig
      You will get a box that has a bunch of tabs, the last one should say startup. Click on that tab and you will see a long list of what is loading into memory when you boot. Uncheck all the crap you dont need….but i would recommend leaving the Windows system files checked.
      BTW-this only works in Win98….hope that helps

        Thank you all very much,these suggestions are very helpfull.By the way i have 128MB RAM,win98 is my OS.Tell me one thing that how can shortage of memory effect the working of computer.MY computer is slow in loading programmes like MS Office or Netscape Nevigator and opening of control panel(occasionally).Thanks a lot once again.
