(Solved) Outlook unable to download mail at one site but fine on all others

By matt.pott ·
Hi There,

This is my first post on techrepublic, although i have been a reader of the daily digest for a while.

I have pop3 accounts set up on a windows 2003 server hosting account, using smartermail instead of exchange. The mail server has its own ip address but i have tried pinging mail.thedomain.co.uk and it resolves to the correct IP. Also, all accounts are working fine through the webmail interface.

We have tried connecting at 4 different broadband sites (my home and office, 2 colleagues home broadband connections) and all of the accounts can be connected to via pop3 in outlook 2003 with no problems.

The problem is, they cannot be connected to from the one office which actually requires email download from the accounts via outlook.

We have been troubleshooting for a while and tried things like router settings, turning off windows firewall, blocked ports etc but have now completely run out of ideas, even tried connecting via the IP address instead of the domain.

Message returned is "cannot connect to pop3" when i press test connection in outlook accounts wizard.

Does anybody have any idea why we can't get it to work from this one single site? The connection details are definately inputted correctly as one of the home tests was done on a laptop which has been at both sites.

My suspicion is that it is something the broadband provider is blocking, however they deny this.

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

EDIT

ISSUE RESOLVED - TURNED OUT TO BE AN ISSUE WITH AN IP BEING BLACKLISTED ON THE HOSTS FIREWALL

I'LL LEAVE THIS UP, HALF BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A BUTTON TO CLOSE IT AND HALF BECAUSE IT MAY BE OF USE TO SOMEONE IN THE FUTURE.
