sound card

By funny_farm ·
I have recently installed a new 80 gig, barracuda hard drive, and it won't accept my sound card. I have tried looking up the individual driver for it, but I tried to install the driver and it didn't even detect that I had a sound card installed. Iknow it is installed though, because it's a built in card on the motherboard, and it worked with my last hard drive, but not my current one.

Your MB should have included an OEM driver/utilities disk that has the sound card driver. If not download it.

Methinks....

Possibly you disabled the sound chip inadvertently in the BIOS when you changed the drive...or, unlikely but possible, fried the sound chip with static....I've seen it done!

System drivers

by TheChas In reply to sound card

I am going to assume that you installed Windows fresh onto this hard drive.

If so, you need to install a number of drivers to get all of your hardware working properly.

Start with the chip-set drivers for the motherboard.

Then DirectX (making sure that you install a version supported by the video card driver)

Video driver

Sound driver

Other hardware drivers.

By the way, you will usually get faster and more answers to technical questions if you post them in the Technical Q&Aforum.
