sound is disabled

By angeleyes296 ·
The drivers for my sound card are disabled due to an unknown problem. I have no other device conflicts that are showing in the device manager. What could be the problem?

Has the sound card worked in the past? Post back with additional information.

What kind of sound card.
What new apps or hardware has been installed.

Did you upgrade your OS? This will cause to disable your sound card unless you have the right OS driver.

As others have suggested, try to go back to 'the last known good' state. What has been added since it worked last? Back out any appications that you may have added since then.

Go into device manager and remove the sound device. Then manually remove all drivers for it - you need to make sure the INF and SYS files no longer exist. Double check that you have drivers suitable for your OS on hand and power down (NOT restart) the PC. Power it back up - it should try to reinstall the sound. Reinstall using the new drivers and see if that does the trick.
