Sound Recording problems

By Kiwi71 ·
I use sound recorder for making wav. files to send to friends, and when I click on record, I can hear myself through the speakers...but in playback, I hear nothing...and neither does the person I sent it to.
It worked the other day by some chance, and now it's not working again...I checked device manager, and there are no conflictions etc.
can anyone help?
thanks

start>settings>control panel>multimedia and check and make sure your sound card is selected for playback and record click the mic icon and make sure the recording volume is up check the use preferred devices only and click on the devices tab and click the plus next to audio devices and double click your audio device and make sure it is enabled. Make sure your mic is plugged into the mic jack and not the line in jack. double click the speaker in the task bar and make sure nothing is muted. and check and make sure that the mic is selected. what did you do before it stopped working? new hardware new software? someone playing with the pc?

Double Click on the speaker icon in the system tray (the clock and other stuff in the bottom right of screen).
You will get the volume controls. Check that the appropriate settings are correct (ie mic, line-in and master) and not muted.
Now in the "Options" menu choose "Properties" and change view to the "Recording" section and press "OK". Now you will have a slightly different set of volume controls. Set these correctly and you may find the problem solved.

I had the same identical problem and found it was a defective sound card. Simply replaced with another brand and it worked fine. Mfg recommended I change to another PCI slot. Didn't work.
