spoolsv.exe error shutdown print subsys

By ronlin81940 ·
Comments: I recently installed a copy of Bitware FAX software on my Windows 2K system only to find out that it caused a spoolsv.exe error which shuts down my print subsystem. I went on MSN support site and downloaded their documents dealing with this problem. I then followed the advice to totally remove Bitware including going into the register and deleting all references to that program. However I still am incurring the same spoolsv.exe error and cannot reactivate my print subsytem. I have tried to address this to the Microsoft newsgroups and have had no response from them. I am hoping you can direct me to the source of my problem. I do not want to scratch my hard drive and reinstall. It will cost me to much in lost data and nonreplaceable downloaded software updates to my older software programs. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ronald K. Carpenter

Take a look at this article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;257859
Check for spaces.

There still maybe instances of Bitware running,
Bwagent.exe or Bwprnmon.exe in Task Manager check this out or you may have to restore your registry.

I had gone to the Microsoft Knowledge database prior to recieving the two provious answers to my question and accomplished the purges recommended by Microsoft knowledge base numbers 811348, Q312052, and Q257859. This did not repair the problem nor did re-installing the printer driver.
I also re-installed Win2k as a repair process to no avail. I am still unable to print withour moving the document to another computer on my internal home LAN. I have also tried to delete spoolsv.exe to copy a fresh file but Win2K has not allowed me to do this. I am at a loss as to what else to do.
