SQL Server 2005 and Reporting Services

by kevaburg . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

OK, I installed and updated a Windows 2003 Server installation. .NET Framework is installed to version 3.5 and SP3 for SQL Server 2005 has also been applied.

During the initial Windows Server installation I failed to give the server a name other than the default that is given. SQL Server 2005 was then installed with a single instance and reporting services installed in the same package. The entire installation completed without a problem.

Realising my mistake with the server name changed it first of all and then changed the name of the installed instance to match it. My problem is that I cannot change the instance (based on the orginal server name) that reporting services wants to connect to and the conenction fails.

I have deinstalled every SQL Server component that was available (except the SQL Express that I also have) and attempted to reinstall the software but somewhere deep in the registry is a key that needs to be altered or deleted to successfully reinstall both the server and the reporting services.

This is a test machine installed as a virtual machine with VMWare (although I doubt the problem is there) so if necessary the entire software package can be reinstalled if necessary but that is a last resort.

My question is how do I get reporting services to function under the new instance name? I would prefer to fix the problem rather than reinstall the entire server because I feel this must be a problem that others have had at some point as well.

Thanks for your help folks and I look forward to your answers!
