SQL SERVER Communication Link Failure

By REZUMA ·
Hi, I work for a company with 16 offices connected by frame relay. They all use a MS SQL server (v based software named SOFTPRO.
Every none and then the users get the error "communication link failure" and get kicked out of the application. I am not a DBA, how can i takle this problem? another person have already spent 1 months trying to troubleshoot the problem, but he is a cisco certified and have only approach the problem by analyzing network traffic, sniffer, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I would start with the easiest thing first. Check the MDAC versions and make sure they are all at least 2.7. You can do this with the Component Checker tool from MS. Here's a link to the download:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&displaylang=en

Go to this link and follow the suggestions there regarding connectivity:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;827422

The other thing to check is the SQL server logs to see when this is happening. It could be due to a procedure which is maxing out the cpu and causing the server to drop connections. You will need to monitor the server to discover if this is happening.

If you still cannot discover the problem post back with any further information from your logs that will help us pinpoint the issue.

Cheers.
