Start of Graphical Install lockup

by fferrant . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I took an old Compaq Deskpro EX and put in a new Motherboard/Proc (Gigabyte GA-7VKMLS/Duron 1.2). When I run the Windows2K install booted from the CD the install freezes as soon as it gets to the “Starting Windows 2000 Setup” prompt which means it’s going into the graphical part of the install.

I’ve replaced the CD-ROM, HDD, Cables, RAM, and Power Supply with no luck. On a hunch my co-worker suggested I use Linux and it worked! I can use this same media on a different machine and have it work.

I recently updated the BIOS to v.F5. No luck. Help.
