Starting Up Password

By knt99 ·
I gave my cousin a ps1 (win3.x) computer. I had installed and running Win95 on it. Problem is...she boots up the computer and she gets a black screen and a blue box asking for a password up to 7 characters to continue on. It sounds to me that it is in DOS mode. I dont know the password to get out of that. She cant use the mouse to close anything out. If i reinstall 3.1 ...it will probably override the Win95 file. I just need someone to help me figure out how to bypass that DOS mode password boxon bootup!!
Thanks to anyone!

Starting Up Password

This sounds like it may be a BIOS password. You may want to check for a jumper on the motherboard that says reset bios or clear bios. With the machine turned off, move the jumper to the other position on the pins and restart the system. Shut it down and replace the jumper to the original position. Restart!

The password that you are being asked for is a start up password, that has been activated in the BIOS.

To remove it, switch your machine off, locate the jumper (Mostly near the CMOS battery) and set it to reset. Switch the machine on, if requireddisable the password, save settings and move the jumper back to it's original position. This will let you start up without the password being required.
