Supporting a small office with no staff?

by davage . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

I’ve been handed the “challenge” of supporting a 10-15 person office without any hands-on staff in a city 700 miles and one time zone away starting 1 Dec!
I am in the process of gathering an inventory and establishing other baseline information, especially ensuring I have remote access to administer their NT domain/server and Lucent switch (like I do in my home office).

My main concern involves issues where hands-on support is needed. The user community isn’t very technically savvy and is quite busy, so “teaching” them to be each other’s tech will not work.
I do have the option of contracting with a local support firm, but I could only have them “on call” for emergencies, since having a contractor sit in the office every day would defeat the financial purpose of letting the previous tech go!

Anyone else go through this situation?
Anyone have suggestions? (Remote control software and having a readily available pre-configured hardware replacement pool have already come to mind.)
Thanks!
