SuSE crash – hardware or software?

by jdclyde . Updated 17 years, 9 months ago

The system has frozen twice this morning (I was just informed)

Running SuSE SLES10.1
Server is an IBM x230.
Using a Raid card, running Raid5 with 4 SCSI hard drives (nine gig each).

In the /var/log/messages log, I am seeing this.

Oct 13 10:11:23 server kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Oct 13 10:11:23 server kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Oct 13 10:11:53 server kernel: hda: ATAPI reset timed-out, status=0x80
Oct 13 10:12:28 server kernel: ide0: reset timed-out, status=0x80
Oct 13 10:12:28 server kernel: hda: status timeout: status=0x80 { Busy }
Oct 13 10:12:28 server kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Oct 13 10:12:28 server kernel: hda: drive not ready for command
Oct 13 10:12:58 server kernel: hda: ATAPI reset timed-out, status=0x80

The only IDE device would be the dvd rom, and that was not in use. It LOOKS like a hardware issue, but not sure where to start.

Thanks,

jd
