hey folks!!!
i got few doubts!! how to console cisco2960 48TT switch with my pc??i connected rj45-db9 adaptor cable and hyperterminal my switch..i dint see any booting process in the connection!! actually i wanna configure my switch for vlan...Is there any OS separately for configuring the cisco switch?? any server OS??? please kindly advise me if anyone knows it..

Try this...

Hook your console cable to the console port on the switch with the other end going to the db9 connector connected to the serial port on your computer. Open hyperterminal and enter anything (probably something meaningful). Select the com port it is on (COM 1 probably)and click OK. Next, click restore defaults and then click ok. Push enter and you should see your switch. If not, try another com port if listed or try rebooting the switch. After you do your config, you can enable telnet, which you won't need to console in, but it is not very secure.

If this is a production switch, I would strongly advise hiring someone else who has done this for a while.
