System clock is out of sync

We have just added 3 new Win2000 workstations. On 2 of the machines the system clock runs approx. 35 minutes fast by the end of each workday. They also periodically reset to near the correct time without the user changing the settings. Is there a setting to fix this.

hold your mouse pointer over the time in your ask bar then right click to open the properties box and scroll down to ‘adjust date/time’.then select the proper time.make sure to do this at the servers that the 3 machines are networked to.you can alsoadjust and maintain time/date with atomic clock. a free small progam that adjust time to US time zones, its called ‘atomic clock snyc utility’.

It sounds like a time drift from polling incorrect network time.
Do they poll the server? Do others on th enetwork poll the server? Is the server set to a time source or its own CMOS clock?

You should be using a specific main server for time services, and then sync the rest from there.

MS uses SNTP, Simple Network Time Protocol, I believe. You can configure this quite a bit from the standard shipping configuration.

I recommend you look up NTP on MS KB site to learn more. [And/or just wade through the NET TIME commands at the prompt.]

When you say NEW workstations, do you mean that literally? If they were old workstations I would suggest that the small internal “lithium” battery may need to be replaced. Loosing time is a sure symptom.

They are literally new AMD 2500 Barton workstations. All three are A78NX motherboards. This is only happening on 2 of the 3 computers and none other in the company.

Disconnect the PCs from the network.

If the time still drifts significantly, the oscillator for the real time clock is not operating correctly.

If so, the only fix is a new motherboard.

Another remote possibility, is that the BIOS is setting the CPU FSB and multiplier incorrectly.
Try manually setting the FSB and multiplier in BIOS settings.
