T1 with Voice and Data

By johnnywatt ·
Can you provide a "Big Picture" description of what is used when a company has a T1 for telephone service and Internet (Fractional)?
I am looking for a description of what equipment, technology method (how it works on your side and the Provider's side) and service agreements may be used from someone who has been actively involved in this service.

Generally speaking, you would have the T1 coming down into a CSU like an Adtran, which would be configured to break each group of channels up to their respective components. The data side would be handed off to your router via ethernet or serial, and your voice would come out digital or analog. You just create a channel map to dictate what channels are voice, and what is data, and which port is each Your carrier should tell you that before it's turned up. Generally the groups are contiguous, but if your voice is PRI the D channel should always be last.
