How old is/are the tape(s)?

Write error means either bad media or a bad drive , usually.

How old is the Tape Drive here?

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to Tape Drive

Much more importantly is it protected from sucking in dust and other airborne junk that can damage the Head?

Have you tried cleaning the head?

Have you tried a different Tape to rule out the actual Tape which could have a Bad spot or part along it's length?

Have you tried to Format the Tape and see what happens then?

As stated above Write Errors are almost always related to either a Faulty Tape or Tape Drive.
