TCP IP

By KoolBreeze ·
My Dell Latitude Laptop has stopped connecting on the network. I swapped the card into another machine an there is no problem there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the card. I am not coming up with an answer to this one. Any suggestions?

Whenever a connection attempt is made Event Viewer logs an Error for IPRIP. "IPRIP was unable to create a socket for (IP address)xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Try to uninstall all protocols. Check settings for TCP/IP, reset all settings to default (DHCP). If it's Windows 2000 or XP, uncheck all protocols in protocols list and reboot machine. Then check in one by one. It's most likely configuration problemof machine, so, split this task to small steps and do them one by one.

Good luck.

First make sure that there isn't another computer with the same computer name on the network. While you are checking the computer name, make sure that the name of the domain or the workgroup is spelled correctly.

Next thing that I would check is the ip address. If your network uses static ips, there may be another machine with that ip already on the network. Make sure you have the correct subnet mask, and gateway. (there may not be a gateway, but it's something to check.)

Lastly, make sure that the username that you are logging on with has the correct permissions to log on to the network.

I hope that this helps you.
