I have a Dell Power Edge 4600 with a built in DLT drive connected to the internal SCSI card. The operating system is Win 2003 SBS.
I have out grown the DLT drive and so purchased an external LTO Drive (HP StorageWorks Ultrium 960) which works fine and backs up all my data to a single tape using Symantec Backup Exec 10d, part of SBS.
Symantec has, as part of its software package, IDR (Intelligent Disaster Recover). The theory is that you create a bootable CD and then restore the data from a combination of ASR disks (created at the same time as the CD from within Symantec) and the tape containing the latest full backup.
All sounds wonderful, right?
My issue, the combination of the CD and ASR disk?s works fine but the external tape is not recognised. The only option is to restore from the DLT, and yep my LTO tape will not run in that drive!
On boot-up of the server I hit F6 to install third party drivers and install the Ultium driver but still no joy.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
