What operating system is this?

by seanferd In reply to technical support

Is there any further information in the boot failure message?

As you can see from a search, there are many possible causes. http://www.google.com/search?q=boot+failure%3A+system+halted

Is there a hard drive inside? Connected properly?

Look in BIOS setup and see if the drive is properly detected.

If this machine is under a warranty, let the vendor service it.

Documentation for this model:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4400/

Microsoft.com will have documentation for the operating system if a version of Windows is installed. You can find here,e.g., how to repair the MBR if necessary.

This sounds like a Hardware issue not a Software problem.

Start off by looking in the BIOS and make sure that it's properly configured. Things like the Correct CPU and amount of RAM should be indicated as well as the current Date & Time.

Everything else can be set to Auto or Defaults and then save the changes as you exit the BIOS.

Also make sure that there is a HDD in the system as if there isn't or it is incorrectly identified you'll get that error message as well.
