The best proxy server for small companys

By fabioyogi ·
Hi there, I would like to create a proxy server to share my dsl with randon ip address, over 30 machines in my company, I would like to have maximum security as possible, like control visited web pages, restrict access for some download, well control the most part of bad usage of internet from the users, I dont want to use linux at the moment, I thinking in windows2000 with a proxy software called WINGATE, there is a better solution than this? Thanks

ISA Server is a good proxy server and comes free with Small Business Server which is a good choice for Small Companies - you get Windows 2000, IIS, Terminal Services, Exchange, SQL and ISA Server.

Ross has a good suggestion with going to SBS 2000 with ISA server. ISA server is not only a proxy server but a very good firewall as well. If your going to buy Small business Server software, and you believe your company will grow go with the Small Business Server 2003 Platinum Edition with ISA Server 2004. ISA Server 2004 has many enhancements including multiple network routing and firewall protection that ISA 2000 does not.

If you don't have the budget for buying a software package costing $3K USD, the Wingate is a cost effective proxy server but you'll still need some type of perimeter firewall/statefull packet inspection system to protect your network from the Internet. ISA Server 2004 does have free Trial Versions as well as a Nominal fee trial version of Small Business Server 2003.

Take a test drive of these products on a test network environment.

BTW SBS 2003 has its own LAN web site using Sharepoint Services and OWA for Exchange 2003 server.
