Throttling HTTP Bandwidth

By mtisdel ·
Does anyone know of a software or hardware solution that would help me with the following situation?

We are in a contractual relationship with a company in the same building as us--our computer rooms would be no more than 30 meters from each other. We will provide the other company Web access through our T1, however, we would like to be able to throttle their use of http traffic. We have to have fast access to a couple of their servers, so we cannot just throttle the whole connection.
Thanks for any products/ideas.
Matt Tisdel

CheckPoint has an excellent product called FloodGate-1. It lets you prioritize traffic as needed. I'm not sure it will fit the bill exactly but you can email/call them for more info. We implemented this to guarantee inbound VPN connections were getting enough bandwidth [we were getting failures because the T1 was being pegged inside by people downloading MP3's - we filtered for MP3 downloads to remove that and also installed this product]. Working like a champ!

Hi Matt,

Many routers allow you do to some traffic shaping. I would suggest that you look at the Cisco 1601, which should allow you to use traffic shaping (with the correct version of IOS.) I've confirmed that it will do T1. :-)

Take care,
Heather
