What operating system do you have installed?

You may want to reference using Fidisk to wipe the drive clean and reinstalling the operating system

Restoring to the factory bios settings may cause some problems with how the machine operates and you will lose all updated drivers and data.

Why may I ask that you need to restore the computer to factory state?

Are you having problems with the system that you need to reinstall the operating system

Almost all restore cds have the option to format and restore to defaults. But if you have added new cards and programs they will not show up. You will get screens with new hardware found and please insert cd for new software. You could loose any files and programs. Do your self a favor and back up your system to a zip drive or other device. Run a virus scanner and save what you need.

Hi,

Both answer make valid points.

First, what type of system do you have? Clone, Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc.

Second, if you want to restore your system back to the way it was when you first received it you will need to remove ANY 3rd party hardware you have added. That includes putting in the original video card if that was changed.

Last, as was stated, all restore CD's will allow (some require) you to format the hard drive and then install the OS package. This will be the best way to restore your system back to factory spec's.

Note: DO NOT mess with your BIOS unless you have already done so. Change these settings can create problems if you do not know what your doing.

Hope this helps.
