Toshiba Laptop won't boot

By Daz'n'Ash ·
I have a clients' Toshiba Sattelite Laptop and although the case looks like it has been sat on or had something heavy placed on it and cracked it, inside there is no apparent damage to the circuit boards. When it is turned on, the screen just goes from black to a very dark green colour, no dos prompts, no bios information either. I have reason to believe it has windows installed on it.
Oh and no post beeps of any kind, just the one beep as it attempts to boot.
Any ideas out there?

Can you plug a monitor onto it and see what it does? Sounds a tad terminal, doesn't it.

Thank you for tying to help with a solution to the problem, but unfortunately, this was not the problem. Maybe next time you can get the points. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

There are several possibilities but until you get a basic video signal, you can't do much.

Connect up an external monitor and see if it displays. You may want to use an external keyboard too. Check the cables and connections carefully. Do you seeany signs of damage to the LCD? Pop out the battery and use a "reset" button if you have one. Some laptops try to restore their settings on boot and get hung if they can't. Try a boot disk (see if the light comes on or it reads at all).

My guessis that in getting "crushed" it's damaged the LCD or its connection to the systemboard. If the external monitor works you can troubleshoot further. If not, there may be more damage than is apparent. To break a trace or device on a circuit board doesn't require visible damage....

Good luck. Hope this helps!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question, but the problem turned out to be the power supply, and not cost effective to even attampt to do anything with it.

A *LOT* of laptops in the Sattelite series were complete lemons. As I recall, there was a big class-action suit a few years back about 'em.

I used to have one (a working one) and it did give me the same problem. I believe it has something to do with the power supply.

Thank you for your time to reply, you are correct, the problem was the power supply. Yet another old laptop for spare parts.

Scrap the unit, take what is good and toss the rest away.

LOL thanks for the idea, but not really a solution to the problem. Turned out to be the power supply. It is spare parts now, not worth anything else.
