I have Toshiba Satellite Pro 490CDT with 4G harddrive and 64M RAM. Want to upgrade from 95 to 98SE. Largely because I want to be able to use the USB. Also hope for more stability and to be able to run more software (Stuff that won’t go with 95).
Am I going to regret this?
I’m happy to backup data and install from scratch because my current system is probably fairly messed up.
I’m aware of the BIOS and driver updates listed at
http://www.csdsupport.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/98upg/1099w98.shtml
I intended to
– Backup my data, etc
– Format my drive
– Use my recovery disks to put a clean version of 95 on
– Then follow Toshiba’s procedure from the web page as follows
Before you install Windows 98:
1. Update BIOS
2. Update Toshiba Internal Modem Driver v90_w95.exe
3. Uninstall Toshiba Infrared Driver (if installed)
After you install Windows 98:
1. Update Yamaha Sound Driver 490snd98.exe
2. Install Toshiba Win98 Infrared Driver 780fir98.exe
3. Install Toshiba Win98 Utilities 490utl98.exe
– While installing the 98 upgrade I guess I’ll have to shove in the original 95 disk at some point to prove authentic ownership.
Questions
– Do I have a fair chance of success?
– Have I missed anything important from my procedure?
– Is 4G and 64M enough for 98?
Thanks
